GC8000 Error 605 – Carrier Gas Low Pressure
Analyzer tripped during startup due to carrier gas pressure falling below the minimum allowable limit.
Case Snapshot
- Analyzer: Yokogawa GC8000
- Error Code: 605
- Application: Refinery GC shelter
- Status: Analyzer not operational (startup aborted)
Observed Symptoms
- Error 605 displayed on GC8000 HMI during startup
- Carrier gas pressure indication unstable near low limit
- Analysis sequence aborted before column stabilization
Initial Actions Taken
- Analyzer restarted multiple times
- Alarm acknowledged from HMI
- Gas panel visually inspected
Issue persisted after restart attempts.
Detailed Diagnosis
- Checked carrier gas cylinder pressure at source
- Verified regulator outlet pressure on gas panel gauge
- Observed pressure drop when oven heating demand increased
Root Cause Identified
Carrier gas cylinder was nearly empty, and the pressure regulator could not maintain stable outlet pressure under startup load, causing the GC8000 carrier pressure validation to fail.
Corrective Action
- Carrier gas cylinder isolated and replaced
- Regulator outlet pressure reset and leak-checked
- Gas flow stabilized before restart
- Analyzer restarted using standard startup procedure
Result After Fix
- Error 605 cleared
- Carrier pressure remained stable during oven warm-up
- Analyzer entered normal operation
Failure Logic (Simplified)
GC8000 continuously validates carrier pressure during startup. Any instability below the minimum setpoint immediately triggers Error 605 to protect columns and detectors.
Lessons Learned
- Carrier gas health is critical during startup validation
- Near-empty cylinders can pass static checks but fail under load
- Always stabilize gas supply before restarting GC8000
